Who We Are
Sigma Tau Delta is an English honor society established to promote and share the love of literature, language, writing, and words.
​
The Society strives to
-
Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies;
-
Provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities;
-
Foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing;
-
Promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members;
-
Exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and
-
Serve society by fostering literacy.

Membership
Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is an outward recognition of personal accomplishment and signifies that those invited have achieved the Society’s high standards of academic excellence.

Members of Sigma Tau Delta will enjoy exclusive access to scholarships, writing awards, submission opportunities, internships, conventions, student leadership positions, and community service and career development opportunities.
Undergraduates are eligible to join Sigma Tau Delta if they:
-
have at least a 3.0 GPA in overall scholarship and a 3.2 in their English courses,
-
have completed at least two English courses beyond basic studies,
-
are an English major, an English minor, or are in the process of earning a Teaching Licensure in English, and
-
have completed at least 3 semesters of college course work.

Graduates are eligible to join Sigma Tau Delta if they:
-
have at least a 3.3 GPA in overall scholarship and
-
have completed at least 6 hours of graduate English courses
OR
-
were a part of Sigma Tau Delta as undergraduates (membership may be transferred to our chapter).
